Keep in mind these are for informational purposes only. Having listed the following here, we are not endorsing the performance or accuracy of any of them, but rather offering this as an extension of our customer service.

  1. What type of browser is required to access and view all of 4x Charts features?

  2. What type of operating system is required to access 4x Charts?

  3. I installed the 4xCharts on my laptop for the trial version, and it seems after installation that the platform is not getting live data update. I'm using zone alarm and as you know it allows IP range and port controls for applications. I can get the first time prices when I start 4xCharts, but then no live updates could be received. ( Internet Security Software such as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security and others use the same protocol to fix this problem)

  4. I am using Netscape, why am I getting the blank screen with no charts showing?

  5. I am using AOL, and unable to see any charts. Why?

  6. I have trouble opening the application after installation of the software, such as:
"I receive an error with the word java" "I receive an error – Unable to start application the class files could not be loaded"
"I receive an error with words like: illegal operation, the application must be shut down"

  7. I have trouble with the application or charts, such as:
    "My computer freezes!"
    "My chart freezes!"
"I cannot save settings on the charts"

  8. I would like to upgrade or download Java, how can I do that?

What type of browser is required to access and view all of 4x Charts features?

Our charts and tools can best be viewed with:

Netscape Communicator version 4.08 or newer
    Netscape version 6.2 or newer
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or newer
    America Online 6.0 or newer
    and other compatible browsers*

4x Charts features that run on Java applets are compatible with Sun Java VM1.1 and above. The browsers that 4x Charts is compatible with (mentioned above) all support Sun Java VM1.1. If you are using a browser with a lower version, please upgrade yours at the links below. 4x Charts will continue its efforts to support a broader range of browsers.

For PC:

For Mac:

* If you are using a Macintosh we recommend using Internet Explorer rather than Netscape

What type of operating system is required to access 4x Charts?

4x Charts requires an operating system of Windows 95 or higher.

We have found that Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security and other Internet Security software often creates a problem with the chart, because it tries to block the data that the chart needs to update.  Please try to disable Internet Security software for a period of time, if the problem is resolved, we can safely assume that it is the Internet Security software that is causing the problem.

If we can discover that the trouble is related to the internet security software, please enable the following IP addresses in the Internet Security software. These are the IPs that the chart needs to access to get data from our server:

From 65.119.248.1 all the way through to 65.119.248.255

Once this has been completed try to login again and let us know if the trouble continues. If you are still experiencing trouble, please provide details for example, do you get brought back to the login screen, or do you login but the charts do not load? Do you receive an error message, if yes, what is the error message? The more details you provide, the better we may help.

I am using Netscape, why am I getting the blank screen with no charts showing?

Your Internet connection could be connected from behind a firewall or proxy. We suggest you consider consulting your network administrator for further advice. We have found that the following steps will make 4x Charts work under proxy settings:

  • Close Netscape if it is currently running.

  • Launch a text editor such as Notepad or Word Pad.

  • Select Open from the File menu drop-down.

  • At the bottom of the dialog box, change the "Files of Type" selection to "*All files" or "*All documents".

  • Using the directory tree, locate the file called "prefs.js" usually located in your C drive under ProgramFiles\Netscape\users\username.

  • Select the file and open it.

  • Scroll to the bottom and type (exactly) the following:
    user_pref("security.lower_java_network_security_by_trusting_proxies", true);

  • Click Save. This automatically overwrites the old file.

  • Launch Netscape

I am using AOL, and unable to see any charts. Why?

4x Charts supports AOL version 4.0 and newer. If you still cannot view our charts correctly, send us an email.

I have trouble opening the application after installation of the software, such as:

"I receive an error with the word java"
"I receive an error – Unable to start application the class files could not be loaded"
"I receive an error with words like: illegal operation, the application must be shut down"

  • In order to provide state of the art applications, many of the tools are developed using Java Technology. This software is Internet based. For both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape users, you need to have a Java component installed within your browser (it should already be there by default).

  • The Java component, called the Java virtual machine, is the environment which allows the Java component to run. If you are missing this Java component, you may have to reinstall this on your browser(s).

  • Both Microsoft and Netscape release new versions of browsing tools and/or Java virtual machines, or "VM" from time to time. We recommend that you update your browser and VM periodically. It is important to use the newest versions available, because this will insure safe, easy movement throughout the web.

Download Java VM:

For ALL Windows users:

You must download and install both of the below files to make sure that your computer has all the appropriate java files and updates necessary to run our 4x Charts program.

Initial Download: MSJVM_v3805.exe

Update: MSJVM_v3810_update.exe

For XP users once you complete the above Java VM download, please also download Windows XP SP1 or SP1a- please check what you need based on Microsoft's instructions on their website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp

If you use Windows 2000, first install the above Java download and then install this Windows Service Pack 3, please follow these instructions:

    • Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

    • Next follow the instructions to scan your computer.

    • Then under "Critical Update", it should show "Windows 2000 Service Pack 3". Make sure to complete the download for this service pack.

Microsoft has run into some legal problems, so they are having trouble with offering Java downloads right now. Please click here to learn more.
